Ouarzazate sits on hammada — flat, stony, almost lifeless desert. Drive thirty minutes south on a rough track and the ground splits open into a gorge of black volcanic rock with a river running through it, and along that river, a dense green ribbon of date palms, fig trees, barley plots and four small Berber villages.
Fint is the antidote to the film sets. Nothing here is staged: the palms are farmed, the water is irrigated through channels that are centuries old, and the families who host lunch actually live in the houses they show you. Because the track down is rough, tour coaches never come.
Top things to do at Fint Oasis
Walk between the villages
A flat path follows the irrigation channels for a couple of kilometres between the four hamlets. It is shaded, easy and the best walking anywhere near Ouarzazate.
Eat lunch with a family
Several households serve a tagine on the terrace for a set price. Book through a guide or simply ask at the first village — this is how most of the oasis earns from tourism.
Look for the film locations
Babel, The Living Daylights and several Moroccan features used the oasis. Your driver will happily point out which palm grove is which.
How to get to Fint Oasis
- From Ouarzazate: about 30 km south. Around half is unsurfaced piste — fine in a 4x4, slow and rattly in a small car.
- From Aït Benhaddou: roughly an hour via Ouarzazate.
- By tour: the easiest option. Several Ouarzazate day trips combine Fint with the ksar and the film studios.
Insider tips
- A 4x4 or a guided trip is genuinely the better call — the last stretch of piste punishes low cars, especially after rain.
- Bring cash for lunch and for the small fee some villages ask of visitors.
- Spring, when the barley is up and the almonds are in flower, is the best time; midsummer at the bottom of the gorge is very hot.

- Hidden Fint oasis and its Berber villages
- Film studios and Kasbah Taourirt
Day trip from €100 Ouarzazate: Skoura Oasis, Kasbah Amridil & Dades Gorges

- Skoura’s palm oasis and mud-brick kasbahs
